Why vote for Hugh MacDonald

Hugh MacDonald is a proud Alberta Liberal who has been elected 4 times in the riding of Edmonton-Gold Bar.  He is convinced “the party is not over” and wishes to renew, rebuild and re-engage the Alberta Liberal Party.
Hugh MacDonald has political experience, the energy and drive to inspire Albertans who want change.

Hugh MacDonald has some innovative policy ides which will benefit Albertans.  Hugh MacDonald believes municipalities require stable, long-term funding to create efficient local planning.  To accomplish this goal, he would allow municipalities to keep the educational portion of property taxes and would fund public education from K to grade 12 from General Revenues while maintaining the constitutional rights of both Public and Separate School Boards to tax.  To protect Property Rights, he would repeal Bills 19, 36 and 50.  For the environment, he insists that polluters, must pay, not taxpayer.  In Public Health Care policy, Hugh MacDonald will continue to support a strong, publicly-funded and publicly-delivered health care system.  Within that system, he would re-establish 5 health regions and 2 independent boards, the Alberta Cancer Board and the Alberta Mental Health Board.  He would also like to expand the public delivery of continuing care services that than depending on private operators to fill the need that clearly exists for Alberta seniors.  In addition, he would ensure that the nursing home standards in this province are appropriate and rigorously enforced by implementing independent inspections of all nursing homes.  Hugh MacDonald has several other public policy proposals which he has presented throughout this leadership campaign.
