I believe Albertans owe seniors the respect, dignity, and the proper care they may require. Alberta’s high standard of living and quality of life are the results of many years of hard work by our seniors and, in their time of need, our government needs to stand up and take responsibility and do the right thing for our elderly citizens.
I will make sure that the Government of Alberta:
· Expands the public delivery of continuing care services rather than depending on private operators;
· Ensures that there is sufficient capacity of all types of continuing care facilities in the province;
· Indexes Alberta Senior’s Benefit payments so that the financial assistance received by seniors accurately reflects the increased costs of living:
· Creates an Independent Senior’s Advocate office to report directly to the legislature regarding important issues seniors face;
· Ensures that nursing home standards are appropriate to our senior’s needs and rigorously enforced.
Join me in my pursuit of the Alberta Liberal Party’s leadership as we go forward to support a strong, publicly-funded and publicly-delivered health care system. Our seniors and Albertans deserve nothing less.
